    President Ghani Casts His Vote

    Amid airtight security, President Ashraf Ghani- seeking reelection -cast his vote in the historic presidential ballot at a polling station in Kabul on Saturday.

    Up against 12 rivals at the polls, Ghani cast his ballot at Amani Government High School at approximately 08:28AM.

    AIHRC Chairperson Casts Vote, Saying Process Is Too Lengthy

    The chairperson of the Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC) Shaharzad Akbar cast her vote in Ayesha Durani High School in Kabul.

    “The process took around 7 minutes. Printing the biometric sticker took a few minutes as the machine would display error. The process is too lengthy”, Shaharzad Akbar said.

    IECC Calls on People to Prevent Fraud

    The chairperson for the Independent Electoral Complaints Commission (IECC) Zohra Bayan Shinwari called on the people to play an active role in preventing fraud in today’s election.

    The IECC officials who are now at a polling center in Nadria high school said, “We provide justice and people can call IECC number, 132 to register their complaints.”

    All Polling Centers Open in Nangarhar: Officials

    Local officials in Nangarhar province say all polling centers are open in the province and voting begins.

    Provincial spokesperson, Attaullah Khogyani on his Facebook page said that 395 polling centers and 2534 polling sites are open for the voters in the province.

    Polls officially opened in Afghanistan’s presidential election at 07:00AM (local time) on Saturday, amid fears of violence following threats by the Taliban to disrupt the election process.

    Nangarhar is one of the insecure provinces in eastern Afghanistan and its polling centers remain vulnerable even with tight security measures.

    Polls Officially Open in Afghanistan’s Presidential Election

    Polls officially opened in Afghanistan’s presidential election at 07:00AM (local time) on Saturday, amid fears of violence following threats by the Taliban to disrupt the election process.

    Security has been tightened across the country, with thousands of troops and police deployed to guard polling stations.

    The Ministry of Interior (MoI) said 72,000 troops would be in force to protect 5,000 polling centers set up across Afghanistan.

    More than 9.6 million people have registered for the election, according to the Afghan Independent Election Commission (IEC), of which about a third are women.
