    Can Facilitate Peace Talks in Any Format: Khalizad to Journalists in Kabul

    US Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad on Monday afternoon said in a meeting that it is imperative for the Afghanistan government to create a peace process task-force and make sure that its membership is “inclusive and authorised.”

    The meeting was attended by a select group of journalists and Khabarnama has got an exclusive insight on the meeting.

    Mr Khalizad also cleared that in his visit to Afghanistan, he is accompanied by US government, involving members of the State Department, Pentagon, the White House and other security agencies which forms his team.

    But he also emphasised that the peace process has to ultimately an issue to be solved among the Afghans themselves.

    Expressing concern over the instability and violence that has already occurred in the country, he spoke to the journalists and said that there has been “enough bloodshed in this country.”

    While addressing the journalists, Mr Khalizad is quoted to have said that “we [United States] can facilitate and be present in any format for peace talks”. He added that despite the task being difficult,  “there is a window of opportunity (for peace)” and that it is time to end the war.

    16 Taliban Killed in self-made mine explosion in Ghazni

    Ghazni authorities have reported that 16 people were killed in an explosion in this province.

    According to a statement by Press Office of Ghazni province, 16 Taliban were killed in an explosion caused by their own home-made mines in Mushaki village of Qarabagh district.

    Terrorist raid on ANA Outpost in Badghis Province Averted

    Security officials have reported that the insurgents raids on ANA outpost in Jond district of Badghis province have been averted.

    The press office of the 207 Zafar Corps said in a statement that 10 insurgents were killed and 16 others were wounded as a result of ANA confrontation against  insurgents raid on ANA outposts in certain areas of Jond district, Badghis province on Sunday.a

    The statement does not mention anything about ANA casualties.

    CEO Welcomes US Efforts at Peace

    Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah, while speaking in a meeting of the Council of Ministers on Monday said that he welcomes the US’s efforts to bring stability and peace in Afghanistan and added that “now the opportunity has been created for the peace process.”

    He also called on the Taliban to use this opportunity to settle negotiations, ” “we hope that the opposite side (Taliban) also use this opportunity and we hope to reach peace which is the wish of all Afghans.”

    US Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Zalmay Khalizad who is in Kabul and held a meeting with government told TOLO News that “I will cooperate with Afghan officials and other influencial Afghans to reach a peace that ends the 40-year war in Afghanistan. We in cooperation want to make a peaceful Afghanistan where all tribes see themselves included, have the right to choose and will try to achieve a result that should deserve the sacrifices made during the years.”

    214 terrorists Killed and Wounded across Afghanistan

    Security officials have reported that 214 terrorists have been killed or wounded across 16 provinces of Afghanistan.

    Ministry of defense said in a statement on Monday that as a result of the invasive, airborne and cleanup operations of the security forces over the past 24 hours in the provinces of Kunar, Helmand, Balkh, Baghlan, Nangarhar, Nimruz, Paktia, Faryab, Khost, Sar-e-Pul, Ghazni, Kandahar, Logar, Herat, Paktia, Badakhshan and Uruzgan, 157 terrorists were killed and 57 others. wounded.

    The statement added that during these operations, 10 suspects have been arrested with a significant amount of ammunition and explosive. Hideouts belonging to the terrorists were also destroyed.

    Taliban Fighters Killed in Kandahar

    According to officials, at least 6 Taliban fighters have been killed and 19 others have been wounded in the past 24 hours  in Khakrez district of Kandahar province.

    According to the officials, the incident happened as a part of security forces’ cleanup operations.

    ALERT: Met Dept Issues Heavy Rain Warning in Northern Provinces

    The Afghanistan Meteorological Department has issued an alert due to the possibility of heavy rain and potential flooding in the later half of Monday or earlier part of Tuesday.

    The warning is for the northern provinces of Afghanistan as well as parts of Kabul and Salang.

    The forecast by the department shows a possible reading of 20-35mm rainfall

    Former Police Commander of Nangarhar Sentenced

    Bilal Pacha, a former local police commander in Afghanistan’s eastern Nangarhar province, has been sentenced to 6 years in prison after being accused of involvement in arbitrary killings, robberies and maintaining a private prison.

    Pacha allegedly misused his position while he served as commander, and that led to him getting a sentence, as per the statement from the provincial governor’s office.

    The sentence was a result of an open trial that Pacha faced in Jalalabad. He has a right to appeal as of now.

    IS-K insurgents Face Casualties in Nangarhar

    Security officials have reported that around 36 IS-K insurgents have been killed and wounded in Nangarhar province.

    Ministry of Defense has said in a statemnt that as a result of the security forces airborne operations in Khugyani and Achin districts of Nangarhar province, 26 IS-K rebels have been killed and 10 others wounded.

    Several Terrorists Killed and Wounded in Ghazni and Paktia

    Security officials have reported that around 79 terrorists have been killed and wounded in Ghazni and Paktia provinces.

    Ministry of Defense has issued a statement informing that 68 terrorists have been killed and 11 others wounded as a result of the security forces clearing and airborne operations in Nawa, Gilan, Waghaz, Dehyak and Moqur districts of Ghazni ,as well as Neka district of Paktia province.

    During the operation, 4 terrorists had been arrested, and 7 vehicles as well as some weapon and ammunition have been destroyed, the statement added.

    Biometrics A Go-Show for Election Day: IEC

    The Independent Election Commission on Sunday announced that the use of biometric technology has been finalised for the election day.

    IEC emphasized that 2000 people have been trained to operate the biometric technology & 5000 units will be installed at 5000 centres.

    This comes after many opposition parties have casted doubts over the transparency in the elections and warned of boycotting the elections if biometric technology was not utilised.

    President Ghani meets Zalmay Khalizad

    As he visits Kabul, US Special Representative for Reconciliation in Afghanistan Zalmay Khalizad met with Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani.

    The two discussed about a negotiated settlement for the country with a tight focus on Afghan-led and Afghan-owned process, as per a statement released by the Presidential Palace.

    The statement also added that Mr Khalizad assured that the US is committed peace in Afghanistan and he also called for a joint cooperation towards a peaceful Afghanistan.
