    Insecurity Mounts in Bala Murghab as 22 Security Forces Personnel Killed and Wounded in the District

    Local officials have reported increase of insecurity after the death and injury of 22 security forces personnel in Bala Murghab district of Badghis province.

    Speaking to Reporterly on Saturday, Jamshid Shahabi, the spokesperson of Badghis governor said that as a result of Thursday night’s attack of Taliban in Qazia area of Bala Murghab on two outposts of security forces, 12 soldiers were killed and 10 others were wounded.

    Spokesman of Badghis governor stressed that based on intelligence information, dozens of Taliban insurgents were also killed.

    He further added that the area is in control of the security forces and on Friday the governor went to the district along with the commanders of the 207th Zafar Corps police chief of the province.

    Advisor of Cultural Commission of Parliament Assassinated by Unidentified Individuals in Kabul

    Security officials have reported the assassination of Advisor of Cultural Commission of Parliament by unidentified individuals in the city of Kabul.

    Nusrat Rahimi, spokesman of Ministry of Interior said that around 7:20 am on Saturday morning Mina Mangal, the Adviser of Cultural Commission of Parliament was killed by unidentified individuals in an area surrounding PD6 of Kabul city.

    Rahimi added that the case is under police investigation.

    Balkhi: Araghchi’s Recent Statement About Afghan Refugees Contradicts International Commitment

    Afghan Minister of Refugees and Repatriation, Sayed Hussain Alami Balkhi, says that recent statements of Iran’s deputy foreign minister Abbas Araghchi are in contradiction to international commitment.

     

    In response to recent remarks made by Deputy Foreign Minister of Iran, Mr. Balkhi wrote on his Facebook page calling Mr. Araghchi statement, “incongruous and provocative”.

    The Minister of Refugees thanked the citizens of Iran for their reaction to recent statement of Mr. Araqchi about Afghan refugees.

    “If the US sanctions affect our economy and oil sales reach zero, the Islamic Republic of Iran will be forced to consider a special policy for its economy, therefore Iran may ask our Afghan brothers and sisters to leave Iran,” Abbas Araghchi Iran’s deputy foreign minister had said last week.

    10 Civilians Released from Taliban Prison in Kunduz Province

    Afghan Army in the northern part of the country has reported that 10 civilians were released from a Taliban prison in Kunduz province.

    “As result of commando forces operation supported by air force conducted on Friday in Aqsarai village of Char Dara district, a Taliban prison was dismantled,” said the 217th Pamir Corps said on Saturday.

    217th Pamir Corps added that, 10 civilians who had been detained for various charges have been released from Taliban prison.

    Kabul Election Preliminary List Winners Block Parliament Gate

    Kabul candidates who were pronounced winners in the primary list of parliamentary elections blocked the entrance gate of parliament in response to electing administrative board of House of Representatives.

    These winners of Kabul parliamentary elections closed the routes to parliament on Saturday demanding declaration of final results of Kabul before the selection of the Administrative Board of the lower house.

    Representatives of other provinces in the House of Representatives were supposed to go to the polls today to elect administrative panel of parliament.

    Mike Pompeo Set to Visit Russia Next Week

    Mike Pompeo will make his first trip to Russia as U.S. secretary of state next week for talks with President Vladimir Putin and Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on “aggressive and destabilizing actions” that Moscow has taken around the world, a senior State Department official said on Friday as per Reuters.

    Pompeo would reiterate U.S. concerns about Russia’s roles in Venezuela and Syria and its breach of the Intermediate-range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty, as well as Russian attempts to meddle in U.S. elections, the official told reporters in previewing Pompeo’s trip to Moscow and Sochi next week.

    “We have many areas of disagreement with the Russian government and the secretary will have a very candid conversation about concerns in our bilateral relationship,” the official said, speaking on condition of anonymity.

    20 Taliban Insurgents Killed Across Eight Provinces of Afghanistan

    In counter-terrorism operations conducted by the Afghan Special Forces across eight provinces of the country in the past 24 hours, at least 20 Taliban insurgents were killed.

    The Afghan Special Operations Forces conducted a raid in Garm Ser district of Helmand province and destroyed 240 pounds of homemade explosives, 20 pressure plate IEDs and a small cache of IED components.

    Furthermore, in Shah Wali Kot district of Kandahar and Tarin Kot district of Uruzgan province, the operations killed a Taliban insurgent and detained 8 others.

    The Afghan Special Forces conducted a clearance operation in Chahar Darah district of Kunduz province, discovered and destroying 4 IEDs and a house-borne IED, the sources said, adding that a similar operation was conducted in Baraki Barak district of Logar province in which one Taliban insurgent was killed and 3 others were detained.

    Moreover, eight Taliban fighters were killed in Gomal district of Paktika province, while 3 others were killed in Deh bala district of Nangarhar province, and 7 Taliban fighters were killed, 4 more were wounded in Farah city, the provincial capital of Farah province.

    Finally, the 203rd Corps conducted route clearance along Highway 1 to enable military convoys and civilian traffic to pass safely. The clearance operation resulted in destroying 12 roadside bombs, killing four Taliban insurgents and wounding 2 others.

    Nine Children Killed and Wounded in Faryab

    Security officials have reported that 9 children were killed and wounded in a blast in Faryab province.

    Press office of Faryab Police Headquarters said in a report on Saturday that, these children who were aged 8 to 12 years, were targeted by a roadside mine in Chahar Shangho village of Dawlat Abad district as a result of which, 4 children were killed and 5 others were wounded.

    The report added that, the health condition of the injured individuals is also critical.

    Newly Elected MPs to Vote in Speaker of House

    The Wolesi Jirga/Lower House members, who have been recently elected are set to choose the speaker of the house on Saturday.

    Although Kabul elections results are yet to be announced apart from the parliamentary elections are yet to be conducted for Ghazni province, the officials say that MPs have decided to go ahead and elect a speaker.

    Rahimullah Ghalib, the deputy head of parliament’s secretariat has said that in the above case, the former MPs of Ghazni retain their right to vote for the speaker nominees on Saturday elections, but have not the right to be elected.

    The parliament was inaugurated on April 26 after a two-month delay and since then two general sessions have been left.
