    Developing: Kandahar attack does not change our resolve, it made us more determined: Pentagon

    After Thursday’s incident in Kandahar, the Pentagon released a statement clarifying that the ordeal has in no way depleted the US’s resolve to refine South Asia strategy.

    Talking to Reuters, Pentagon Spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Faulkner said “This attack will not change US resolve in our South Asia strategy, if anything it makes us more resolute.”

    Developing: RS Confirms Safety of Gen Scott Miller

    NATO Resolute Support have assured that US Commander for International Forces in Afghanistan Gen Scott Miller is safe and has left the governor office area. Two US citizens have been wounded as per the statement.

    The Taliban have claimed responsibility for the attack.

    Among those who have been killed in the attack are: Kandahar governor, NDS Provincial director, Kandahar Police Chief and a journalist.

    Furthermore, the attackers who open fired were bodyguards of the Kandahar governor.

    The attack took place inside the Kandahar governor’s office on Thursday as the bodyguards opened fire during a meeting between Kandahar governor and UNAMA officials.

    DEVELOPING: Taliban Claim Responsibility for Kandahar Attack

    The Taliban have claimed responsibility for the open-fire attack by bodyguards that took place at the governor’s office in Kandahar on Thursday.

    Among those who have been killed in the attack are: Kandahar governor, NDS Provincial director, Kandahar Police Chief and a journalist.

    US Commander of International Forces in Afghanistan General Scott Miller is among the ones who were wounded, along with 205 Atal Corps Commander.

    Furthermore, the attackers who open fired were bodyguards of the Kandahar governor.

    The attack took place inside the Kandahar governor’s office on Thursday as the bodyguards opened fire during a meeting between Kandahar governor and UNAMA officials.

    Developing: Kandahar Governor and NDS Provincial Director Killed in Attack, Attackers were Bodyguards

    It has been reported that Kandahar governor and NDS Provincial director have also lost their lives in the open-fire attack at the governor’s office.

    Furthermore, the attackers who open fired were bodyguards of the Kandahar governor.

    Security forces had earlier reported that Kandahar police chief General Raziq had been killed in the open-fire attack that took place at the Governor’s office in Kandahar.

    Developing: Gen Raziq Succumbs to Wounds in Kandahar Gunfire

    Security forces have reported that General Raziq has been killed in the open-fire attack that took place at the Governor’s office in Kandahar.

    An open-fire took place inside the Kandahar governor’s office on Thursday as an assailant had opened fire during a meeting between Kandahar governor and UNAMA officials on participants.

    General Raziq was among the people who were present in the area.

    It has also been reported that two US citizens were wounded as well in the attack.

    Developing Story: Two US Citizens Wounded, Gen Raziq Severely Wounded in Kandahar Attack

    It has been reported by local officials that General Abdul Raziq, who was present in the meeting at Governor’s office has been severely wounded by the gunfire that took place inside the governor’s office in Kandahar.

    The local officials also stated that Gen. Raziq has been taken to the hospital. NDS chief and governor of Kandahar have also been reportedly injured.

    It has been reported by Pajhwok News that 2 US citizens who were among the many present at Governor’s office in Kandahar have been injured as the firing took place.

    Developing: Kandahar Explosion may be an Open Fire

    It has been reported by Ariana News that an explosion was heard seconds ago inside the Kandahar governor’s office.

    A security source has also reportedly informed Ariana News that an assailant had opened fire during a meeting between Kandahar governor and UNAMA officials on participants.

    Some initial reports say that General Raziq was present in the area along with other security officials.

    ANP Forces Prevent Rocket Attack on Kabul

    The Kabul Police Commandment in a statement on Thursday said that the ANP forces had discovered and defused two BM1 type rockets before the militants managed to use them in an attack on Kabul, thus preventing rocket attacks on the city.

    The rockets were discovered from Paghman district as per the statement.

    There has been no information on who could’ve been behind this. This discovery happens with less than 2 days to go for the parliamentary elections.

    Riyadh Condemns Helmand Attack

    Saudi Arabia on Thursday condemned the suicide attack on parliamentary candidate of Helmand and one other incident of explosion on the foreign forces in Bagram district of central Parwan province as per media reports.

    A source from Ministry of Foreign Affair informed that the statement by Saudi Arabia also added that the Kingdom outrightly rejects “violence, extremism, and terrorism, in all forms and manifestations, regardless of the causes and reasons, offering condolences and consolation to the victims’ families, the government and people of the fraternal Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, wishing the injured a speedy recovery.”

    It was reported by Pajhwok that NATO Resolute Support and Parwan police chief Brigadier General Mohammad Mehfooz Walizada had informed them of the Parwan attack.

    Pakistan border crossing to be Temporarily Shut Down for Elections

    Afghanistan is going to temporarily close the Torkham border crossing with Pakistan as a part of enforcing a security measure for Saturday’s parliamentary and district council elections, an official said Thursday.

    The crossing will remain shut to passengers and vehicles from Thursday evening this evening until Sunday morning, spokesman for the governor of Nangarhar border province, Ataullah Khogyani confirmed.

    Afghan authorities have additionally assured that they will be deploying more than 50,000 forces to guard the upcoming elections this week.

    Breaking: IECC Releases List of Eliminated Candidates

    The IECC has released a final list of those candidates who have been removed from the official list of parliamentary candidates.

    Here is the list:

    Ruhina Walizai, Maidan Wardak

    Abdulkarim Shafaq, Farah

    Habibullah Ghuriani, Herat

    Ahmad Shah Sadat Hussaini, Herat

    Abdullah Sahil, Kunduz

    Ghulam Nabi Saqi, Ghor

    Samira Khairkhah, Balkh

    The reasons for cross-out of the names has been due to the fact that they did not resign from the government positions on time, or are being imprisoned, or are an Iranian national and if they are or have been prosecuted.

    This comes after there were rumours that were circulating on social media the past week about such a list, but were unconfirmed. Reporterly also anticipated the elimination on Thursday and reported about it.

    Seven other Candidates Likely to be Removed from the Final List of Parliamentary Candidates

    Informed sources told Khabarnama that there is a possibility of the elimination of seven more candidates from the final list of candidates.

    These sources have confirmed that a list of seven people in the Independent Electoral Complaints Commission has been finalized and these people may be removed from the final list of candidates before or after the election.

    According to information coming from the sources, these seven candidates are mostly government officials who have not yet resigned from their positions.

    It comes after a list of 20 eliminated candidates was circulating on social media this week which was confirmed as fake by electoral commission.

    5 Czech Soldiers Among Those Injured in Parwan Explosion

    The Czech Republic has confirmed that 5 of its soldiers were wounded in the explosion that occurred in Parwan on Wednesday. The statement clarified that the incident happened when an explosive-laden car hit the soldiers while they were on a patrol.

    The incident caused a Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected vehicle to be overturned and that’s how 5 Czech crew soldiers were injured, the statement said adding one of them has suffered serious injuries.
    The injured soldiers were transported by air to the military hospital at the Bagram base.

    Parwan’s explosion incident was the doing of Taliban as the group claimed responsibility.

    Taliban faces heavy casualties in Chemtal district of Balkh

    The 209 Shahin Corps informed in a statement that as a result of Walid 20 operation backed by MD530 aircraft strikes as well as artillery assaults in Chemtal district, 16 insurgents were killed and 21 others were wounded as per initial reports.

    9 vehicles were also destroyed during the operation, the statement added.

    21 IS-K fighters killed in Nangarhar province

    Security officials have announced that 21 IS-K fighters have been killed in Nangarhar province.

    The Ministry of National Defense said in a statement that as a result of air operations in the districts of Achin and the Dihbala of Nangarhar province, 21 IS-K fighters were killed.

    The ministry added that during the operation, four hideouts were also destroyed

    Kabul Municipality Warns of Not Collecting Electoral Campaign Advert Props

    Kabul Municipality has warned parliamentary candidates that will not be collecting election campaign props and materials used for adverts from across the city.

    “Since we are on the verge of the end of the campaign, the Kabul Municipality is calling on the electoral campaign offices to respectfully start cleaning up and collecting their adverts and posters, including hoardings, street banners and other adverts which have been installed in every corner of the city during their election campaigns, as soon as possible, until 48 hours after the election day”, Kabul Municipality indicated in a statement.

    The municipality continued to emphasize that if cleaning up is not done by candidates, the Kabul Municipality will seize all their equipment and money assurances and fine them as violators, and officially forward their case to the Independent Electoral Complaints Commission (IECC).

    IS-K Key Leader and Militants Killed in ANDF’s Nangarhar Ops

    The provincial government media office of Nangarhar released a statement to inform that the Special Operations Forces of the Afghan Intelligence, National Directorate of Security (NDS), had carried out operations in Jamal Khel, Deewana Baba, Kandar, and Chenar Kali areas of Achin, leaving a minimum of a dozen militants dead.

    Among those who were killed from IS-K was a key leader Waliullah Mansor who was the shadow judge there.

    Hideouts were also destroyed along with ammunitions of the militants in the operations as per the statement. The security forces suffered no casualties.

    TEFA to have 7200 Observers for Elections

    The Transparent Election Foundation of Afghanistan announced on Thursday that the observer organisation has 7200 accredited observers who will be stationed across 33 provinces on the day of the election.

    However, the TEFA head has also cleared that 300 observers who had registered to monitor the elections gave up the duty due to fear of security threats.

    This comes after several violent attacks, some of which have been fatal, have targeted people or even candidates.

    The Quetta Shura has decided to disrupt the Election: MoI

    The Afghan Interior Ministry has said that the Taliban Quetta Shura in a meeting on Tuesday set a goal to disrupt the Parliamentary Election.

    However, the spokesman for Interior Ministry, Najib Danish, said on Wednesday at a news conference that 55 to 70 thousands security forces are set to secure the election.

    “We have prepared for securing the upcoming election,” he added.

    Mr. Danish asked the people of Afghanistan to not allow or let the enemies to disrupt the election security.
