Khalilzad: We Seek Comprehensive Peace Agreement, Not Withdrawal Agreement

US Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad wrote on Twitter that as they prepare for the next round of talks with the Taliban, it is important to remember that they seek a comprehensive peace agreement, not a withdrawal agreement.

”A comprehensive peace agreement is made up of four inter-connected parts: counter-terrorism assurances, troop withdrawal, intra-Afghan negotiations that lead to a political settlement; and a comprehensive & permanent ceasefire. This is a framework which the Taliban accept”, Khalilzad affirmed.

He added that he has said on numerous occasions that “nothing is agreed until everything is agreed.”.

Khalilzad has emphasised on the above points several times during or before and after he has held talks with the Taliban. He is set to have another round of talks with Taliban this month.
