Dr Abdullah Abdullah, Chief Executive Officer of National Unity Government has said that all government officials are responsible to serve the people of Afghanistan and cannot work for the interest or detriment of presidential election candidates.
Addressing the Council of Ministers on Monday, Mr. Abdullah said that the as long as they can, the authority, the ministers and heads of independent institutions of government and other employees of these bodies should render services to people of the country.
“With regard to the election environment, all government employees can use their right to vote as citizens, but the election issue shouldn’t be seen in their behavior or action, Dr Abdullah emphasized.
While stressing that the government resources should not be considered as personal properties, CE Abdullah said that the facilities need to be spent in the areas that would benefit the people rather than the interest of candidate and loss of the other.
“We do not have any expectations from the employees of government institutions, especially security forces in election campaigns, except fulfilling their responsibilities in the framework of law, CE Abdullah said.
Dr. Abdullah’s remarks come after the presidential election campaigns officially kicked off on Sunday. In this round of presidential elections, 18 candidates are competing including president Ghani and Chief Executive Abdullah.
