As per officials, Taliban fighters attacked Ghazni’s Jaghori district before dawn on Wednesday. The insurgents reportedly attacked checkpoints of the district from Rasana area in Gelan district.

The provincial council says that as a result of this attack, the Dawood Jaghori area fell to the insurgents.

Police have suffered several casualties in the attack, the council added but an exact figure has not yet been determined.

Shah Hussain Murtazawi, the president’s deputy spokesman, has said that planes were in the skies of Jaghori to tackle the militants. However some provincial council members added that in Dawood Jaghori area, there wasn’t much resistance faced by the insurgents.

Taliban claimed the responsibility in a statement and added that they seized nine checkpoints and killed a number of government forces.
