Head of the Independent Elections Commission of Afghanistan, Hawa Alam Nuristani, said on Monday that they will “leave no stone unturned to ensure transparency in the upcoming elections”.
Nuristani announced that election material have been sent to all provinces already.
“We encouraged women to take part in competition for provincial directors but unfortunately we don’t have any female director in provincial IEC offices,” Nuristani added while also saying that women should actively participate in the upcoming presidential elections.
More than 400,000 people have signed up so far in new voter registration process, Nuristani informed, and added that 2,059 people have registered to vote in Ghazni so far.
Nuristani said that 42 out of 458 voter registration centers are however closed due to insecurity and lack of election materials.
It was informed that so far 264,000 men and 138,039 women have registered to vote.
