Abdullah Calls for Reforms to Include Tirbes’ Names in Electronic ID Cards

Following the reaction to the inclusion of a new list of ethnicities in the electronic ID card, Abdullah Abdullah, the chairman of High Council for National Reconciliation, said that the decision on “large and sensitive national” issues needed to be discussed at a national and larger level.

Dr. Abdullah said that at a time when Afghanistan needs unity, consensus on national issues, avoid marginal issues that undermine the unity and solidarity of the people.

The chairman of HCNR stressed that the National Statistics Authority and Information should correct this “mistake” in the interests of the country and the unity of the people, and refrain from actions that he said would harm the interests of the country.

This comes as, the inclusion of the new list for the tribes names has been met with widespread reactions.
