With Record One-Day Spike, India Less Than 10,000 COVID-19 Cases Behind Brazil

India added a record high of 90,632 new Coronavirus cases over the past 24 hours on Sunday, taking the total cases to 4,113,811.

The country is inching closer to becoming the second worst-affected COVID-19 nation in the world and may likely overtake Brazil by Monday which currently has 4,113,811 confirmed cases, according to Johns Hopkins Coronavirus Resource Centre.

There are currently 862,320 active cases in India, while 3,180,865 have already recovered. The Health Ministry reported 1,065 deaths in the past day, taking the fatalities to 70,626.

Brazil meanwhile, recorded 30,168 new COVID-19 cases in the past day.

Over the past month, India has consistently recorded spikes in daily cases even as the government has pushed to re-open the economy.
