    China Will Continue to Support Afghanistan’s Fight Against COVID-19: Ambassador

    China will continue to support Afghanistan’s fight against COVID-19, Chinese Ambassador Wang Yu said on Thursday at a handover ceremony held in Kabul for medical assistance donated by the Chinese government.

    “This is the second batch of 7.2-ton medical supplies donated by China, including much-needed medical equipment such as test kits, masks, protective clothes, goggles and infrared thermometer,” Wang said at the ceremony which was also attended by Afghan Public Health Minister Ferozuddin Feroz.

    “I hope these supplies will be sent to the frontline of the fight against COVID-19 and help more Afghan people.”

    “China and Afghanistan are brothers,” Wang added. “By joining hands, we will have the strength to overcome all difficulties. China will continue to support Afghanistan’s fight against COVID-19.”

    “On behalf of the government of Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and Ministry of Public Health, I would like to convey my sincere thanks and gratitude to the government and people of China for their generous support,” Minister Feroz said.

    “I would also extend my deepest condolences to people of China for the fatalities of this deadly virus. But at the same time, I want to congratulate China for their success in containing COVID-19.”

    “I am sure this support and donations will further assist us in the containment of COVID-19 in Afghanistan,” he added.

    China sent the first batch of medical assistance to Afghanistan on April 2, which included ventilators, protective clothes and face masks.

    Applications Open for Afghan Youth Representative to UN

    It was announced by the Embassy of Netherlands in Kabul that applications are now open for the Afghan Youth Representative to the United Nations.

    “To all Afghan Youth we encourage applying to spread your ideas for current and future Afghanistan with the world”, tweeted the embassy. It is an initiative by the German Embassy in Kabul and APT Youth.

    In 2018, it was the first time that an Afghan Youth Representative for UN was selected. Ramiz Bakhtiar was the Youth Representative in 2018.

    Turkish Embassy in Kabul Celebrates 99th Anniversary of Turkish Grand National Assembly

    The Turkish Embassy in Kabul marked and celebrated the 99th anniversary of the founding of the Turkish Grand National Assembly.

    “Founder of the Turkish Republic & a “true friend of Afghanistan Mustafa Kemal Atatürk dedicated this day 2 children of the world”, the embassy tweeted.

    On this occasion, Ambassador of Turkey to Afghanistan Ertuğrul and the Turkish embassy staff joined the children at the Allaudin Orphanage in Kabul to celebrate 23 April at an event organized by the Yunus Emre Enstitüsü.

    Acting Afghan Minister of Labour, Social Affairs, & Martyred and Disabled Sayed Anwar Sadat also attended the celebration & the performances of children.

    Ghani: National, Regional, Islamic and International Conditions Paved for Peace

    Afghan president Mohammad Ashraf Ghani said that national, regional, Islamic and international conditions have been provided for peace, and the restrictions in this issue have been eliminated.

    During a meeting on Tuesday with the leadership of Peace Consultative Jirga Commission members in Loya Jirga tent, Ghani emphasized the participation of women and said that their participation in the Jirga shouldn’t be less than 30 percent.

    He stated that one of the factors of instability is the lack of clear rules and principles of the game, adding that the advantages of the Loya Jirga is that no one can censor it and that the representatives of the nation can freely express their opinions, suggestions and advice.

    At the same time, the president stressed that it is the Loya Jirga and the representatives of the people who draw the limitation of the peace process.

    “Peace Consultative Jirga would turn all the thoughts on peace into a coherent and systematic debate,” president Ghani stated.

    Ghani added that the Peace Consultative Jirga is related to the Afghan system and is not related to a person. He said that in this regard, representatives of all provinces, districts and people of different walks of life will participate.

    ISIS Claims Responsibility of Sri Lanka Explosions That Left Over 300 Dead

    The ISIS has claimed responsibility for the deadly Sri Lanka bombings that killed over 300 on Easter Sunday and injured over 500.

    Sri Lanka had earlier named the local Islamist group, National Thowheeth Jama’ath, as the chief suspect, for the heinous act.

    A statement on the group’s official al-Amaq news agency made the claim on the encrypted messaging app Telegram saying the suicide bombers were “fighters of the Islamic State”. The group did not provide any evidence to back the claim, media reports said.

    The statement came after an unconfirmed video posted on social media earlier by an affiliated group suggested that the ISIS was behind the Easter Sunday explosion.

    The blasts targeted St Anthony’s Church in Colombo, St Sebastian’s Church in the western coastal town of Negombo and another church in the eastern town of Batticaloa around 8.45 a.m. (local time) as the Easter Sunday prayers were in progress.

    Three explosions were reported from the five-star hotels – the Shangri-La, the Cinnamon Grand and the Kingsbury.

    At least 45 children were among the more than 320 people killed in suicide bomb attacks in Sri Lanka, the United Nations confirmed.

    AMD Issues Warning for Heavy Rain and Flash Floods

    The Afghan Meteorological Department has issued a warning for the possibility of heavy rain and flash flood occurrence is forecasted for the following provinces:

    Badakhshan, Nuristan, Kunar, Laghman, Panjsher, Kapisa, Kabul, Parwan, Logar, Paktia, Wardak, Bamyan, Ghazni, Uruzgan, Daykundi, Ghor, Zabul, Farah, Hirat, Badghis, Faryab and Sari pul provinces.

    The amount of rainfall is between (20 to 40) mm in different areas.

    Insurgent Weapon Cache Dismantled in Logar

    A weapons cache of Taliban insurgents was dismantled and five members of the group were killed, as per army officials.

    The press office of 203rd Tandar Corps said in a statement on Tuesday that, this weapons cache was destroyed as a result of operation of defense forces in Shahr-e Zarghoon area of Mohammad Agha district.

    “This weapons cache contained a large number of various weapons including several heavy guns which were seized by security forces,”the statement added.

    Gen Scott Miller Meets Daudzai

    Resolute Support Commander Gen. Scott Miller and Gen Khoshal Sadat, the senior deputy interior minister for security met with President Ghani’s special envoy Umer Daudzai.

    They discussed the issues of security provision for Peace Jirga and other relevant matters.

    The Peace Jirga is scheduled to take place on April 29.

    Haqqani Network Commander Killed in Ghazni

    Security officials reported that Mullah Ramazan, a commander of Haqqani network was killed in Ghazni province.

    As a result of a two-night operation on Haqqani Network in Gelan and Nawa districts of Ghazni, a famous commander of the network was killed, another member of the network was injured and two others were captured, the statement added.

    Meanwhile, as a result of the air strike of coalition forces supported with security and defense forces, 8 Taliban insurgents were killed in Qala Sher village of Andar district of the province, Ministry of Defense said in a statement on Tuesday.

    IEC Announces Final Results of Parliamentary Elections for Kandahar

    The Afghan Independent Election Commission (IEC) has announced the final results of parliamentary election for Kandahar province.

    Based on the statement of IEC announced on Tuesday, in this round of parliamentary elections of Kandahar province, Sayed Moqtaqa Miran, Dr. Mahmood Khan Nusrat, Rohullah Khanzada, Haji Sayed Ahmad Khadem, Gul Ahmad Kamin, Sayed Ahmad Silab, Khalil Ahmad Mojaheed, Engineer Mohammad Arif Nourozi, Fariba Ahmadi Kakar, Malalai Ishaq Zai, and Parwin Nama entered Afghan House of Representatives with the highest votes.

    Meanwhile, six months have passed since Afghan parliamentary elections took place and the final results of five provinces have not yet been announced.
