Ministry of Interior announced in a statement that the Afghan Counter-Narcotics Special Operation Police and Afghan Air Forces carried out successful special operations in the Gul Surkh region, Zazai Aryoub district, eastern Paktia province.
As a result, Afghan Counter-Narcotics Special Operation Police and Afghan Air Forces found and destroyed 72000kg of opium in the scene.
“26 different types of rifles, nine radio handsets, 18000 bullets and some amount of ammunition and military equipment were also seized” the statement added.
Five suspects were arrested according to the statement in connection to this case and no was harmed during the operation.
It is while there has been a considerable decline in opium harvest of Afghanistan in the past one year as per UN records. The chief cause of this has been the ongoing drought. This has also however, increased the price of opium.
