Afghan Government Welcomes OIC Resolutions: Foreign Ministry

Government of Afghanistan welcomes the OIC resolutions, standing by the people and government of Afghanistan, adopted in 47th Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of OIC meeting in Niger, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) said.

MoFA in a statement said that resolutions 4/47-POL on Situation of Afghanistan, 4/47-POL on Crimes of Daesh and 5/45-POL on Regional Initiatives in Support of Afghanistan show backing of OIC and Muslim states for Afghan government and the peace process.

According to the statement, OIC calls on the Ulema and religious institutions across its members states to declare the war against the Muslim state and people of Afghanistan illegitimate and call for the support of the peace talks.

Condemning the recent terrorist attacks in Afghanistan, particularly those targeting civilians, OIC calls on the Taliban to reduce violence and agree to an immediate ceasefire, the statement reads.

The Foreign Ministry cited that OIC restates its support to the Afghan Government in its efforts to bring peace, both through the peace talks and through the work of the ANDSF’s fight against terrorism.

OIC documented its support of various regional economic and infrastructure initiatives that aim to enhance cooperation between Afghanistan and its neighbours. These include the trans-Afghanistan railway project, TAPI Mega project and CASA 1000 regional power project, the Foreign Ministry said.

MoFA added that the government of Afghanistan appreciated OIC resolutions and values them as refection of Islamic international community’s collective viewpoint and the Afghan government is looking forward to working closely with OIC and its members for these resolution to be put in practice.
