A number of MPs in the parliament say dividing Ghazni into electoral constituencies for the upcoming election slated for September this year is in contradiction with the constitution and is ‘completely biased’.
The representatives who gathered several signatures on Monday said that parliamentary election in the province, which is to take place together with the presidential election, should be held as a single constituency like other provinces.
The MPs have called on the government to upgrade Jaghori district as a province before the election so the province can be divided into two zones in accordance with the law.
In addition to condemning the zone-based parliamentary election in Ghazni, the representatives said the action would undermine unity among the people of the province.
The UN mission in Afghanistan, civil society and political figures should prevent the government from taking such a step, the MPs added.
