Fighting Intensifies With Attacks Across Daykundi, Ghazni, Helmand, Baghlan, Uruzgan

At least 15 Taliban insurgents were killed along with nine members of the Afghan security forces and five of the People’s Uprising Forces in attacks across Afghanistan in the past day.

In the latest wave of violent incidents, Daykundi province confirmed that five members of the People’s Uprising Forces were killed and six others were wounded in the Darazin area of Pato district on Saturday morning.

Daykundi police chief Ghulam Sakhi Ghafouri told Reporterly that the Taliban-attacked area in Pato district is about 185 km from the district center and is an “impassable” valley. He attributed the casualties to the “inactivity of telecommunication networks.”

“There is no direct communication with the forces in that area, and efforts are being made in coordination with the National Security Directorate to establish communication,” Ghafouri said.

Provincial police spokesperson Gul Aqa Sajadi said that three Taliban militants were also killed in the fight that lasted for hours but the area has not been secured.

The National Directorate of Security (NDS) said that the Taliban attacked security checkpoints in the Tarikh Nawar area of Marjah district in Helmand on Friday night.

The fighting went on till 3 a.m. with six Taliban members killed. The security forces also suffered five casualties during the clash.

In Ghazni’s Andar district, a Taliban attack took place in the Chahar Diwar area on Friday night, said the Special Operation Corps.

At least nine Taliban members, related to the groups of Mullah Sharif and Mullah Fatullah were killed and six others were wounded during the counterattack by the Afghan security forces.

Along the Kabul-Baghlan highway and the Baghlan-Samangan highway, both in the Kelagai area of Doshi district in Baghlan, clashes took place on Friday evening.

Four police officers were killed and four others were wounded in the Taliban attacks.

Zelgai Ebadi, Uruzgan governor’s spokesperson said five security forces were killed, while five more were wounded in a Taliban attack on the outskirts of the provincial capital, Tarinkot city, on Friday night.

The Special Operations Corps said Taliban attacked an army checkpoint in Kabul’s Shakardara district on Friday night. A Taliban member who is also a relative of a key IS district commander was arrested.

The Ministry of Interior said that Afghan National Police (ANP) arrested a man while he was planting a roadside bomb in the Ismail Khil/Mandozai district of Khost.

The ANP bomb disposal unit also detected and defused four roadside bombs in the Sanchark district of Sar-e-Pul.
