IEC chief Abdul Sayyad in a press conference on Monday clarified that since Afghanistan has a geography & climate of its own, it has peculiar impacts on the voting process. This according to him can lead to delayed announcement of elections results.
He also assured that parliamentary election results except for Kabul shall be announced on 23 Nov, and Kabul province’s results will be announced on Dec 1.
“A decision about use of biometrics was very late, despite that, it was used properly, we will use biometric system in the presidential elections in a professional way,” Sayyad assured as doubts are being cast over efficiency of IEC.
Sayyad also informed that 11,995 biometric identification across 22 provinces have already arrived in Kabul.
In terms of complaints, Kabul is on top of provinces, to which Sayyad commented “We are undertaking the recounting of votes in Kabul.”
The IEC chief estimated that 39.4 percent of the electoral work have been completed by the IEC and there also has been significant progress made on the processing of result sheets in most of the provinces.
“Some observers of the candidates interfere in election affairs”, remarked Sayyad on the matter of observes in elections.
