The government of Afghanistan requested the Pakistan cleric Maulana Samiul Haq also known as Father of Taliban to help efforts in ending the 17 year old war.
An Afghan delegation issued a call to meet with Maulana Samiul Haw who is the head of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam at Darul Uloom Haqqania in Akora Khattak on Monday.
The delegation included religious leaders, representatives of Kabul government, former students of the seminary as well as Afghan ambassador to Pakistan.
The delegates as per a statement appealed to the cleric to take up the role of a mediator between different Taliban groups. The meeting was held for two and half hours and the delegates confirmed that conclusions were drawn based on what the cleric decided with regards to reconciliation.
According yo Maulana Sami, the matter was intricate which made its solution difficult to attain. But he expressed hope in soon seeing a logical end to the Afghan jihad and an end to the bloodshed. He suggested a meeting be held between religious leaders and Taliban without outside agencies like US or Pakistan. He also suggested that talks be held to look for a possible end to NATO mission in Afghanistan.
