Afghanistan ministry of interior has said that 650 key Taliban insurgents, including shadow governors, shadow district governors, senior commanders and three key IS-K terrorists including Abu Asad Arhabi who was the head of IS-K branch in Afghanistan were killed.
In a news conference on Wednesday the ministry of interior’s deputy spokesperson Nusrat Rahimi said that, in 2018 for law enforcement, fighting against crime and terrorism, MoI in cooperation with national and air force as well as intelligence agencies launched offensive operations on the enemies of people of Afghanistan which have been very effective for security of the capital Kabul and other provinces.
Rahimi added that these offensive operations led to a dramatic reduction in casualties of security forces and the security forces launched a total of 6270 joint and independent operations as result of which 650 key Taliban members, including governors, shadow district governors, prominent commanders of the group were killed.
“In 2018, a total of 1754 weapons were seized and 4150 mines were detected and defused,” as per the MoI deputy spokesperson.
Rahimi added that the core of IS-K has been destroyed in Afghanistan, but a small group are still there in Nangarhar, Jawzjan and Faryab provinces which the ministry of interior has included in its future targets.
At the same time, he stated that during 2018, a total of 15674 criminal incidents were recorded throughout Afghanistan, in which 22,200 people were captured and their files were sent to the authorities for investigation.
He said, in 2018, the rate of the crime in Kabul decreased by 10 percent and across Afghanistan it was 25 percent lower than in 2016.
MoI spokesperson also said that the deputy ministry for counter narcotics had launched 3700 operations during 2018, as a result of which 148 storages, 40 laboratories and 657 tons of drugs were discovered and 4246 individuals were arrested.
“In 2018, independent and aggressive Afghan forces operations in different areas were going on and will increase in the new year,” as per Nusrat Rahimi.
According to Nusrat Rahimi, the Interior Ministry is determined to take steps to fight corruption, and is supposed to equip the logistics and other sectors with electronic system in new year.
Rahimi further said that security measures were taken in the center and provinces for Nowruz celebrations and asked people to cooperate with the security forces in each region where they organize their celebrations.
