NSA Mohib establishes Working Group to facilitate EU support for Afghan-led & owned peace

On Wednesday it was announced in a joint press release that the EU and Afghan government met in Kabul to discuss the steps towards operationalising offer to support Afghan peace process which was made by EU High Representative of Commission Federica Mogherini at the Geneva Ministerial Conference in 2018.

The meeting was co-chaired by Afghan NSA Hamdullah Mohib and EU special envoy Rolan Kobia.

Points discussed in the meeting were: making peace process inclusive, reforms in security sector, reintegration if former fighters and family, and acting as possible guarantor of future peace agreement.

The participants stressed on centrality of Afghan government in the peace process and EU gave its multi-faceted support for sustainable peace in Afghanistan.
