President Ashraf Ghani in a phone conversation with Josep Borrell, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, on Monday, lauded their principled stance on supporting the peace process, values of the republic and a nationwide ceasefire in Afghanistan.
The Presidential Palace said that Borrell conveyed his sympathies to the families of victims affected by the attack on First Vice President Amrullah Saleh’s convoy.
He expressed EU’s enduring support for strengthening and protecting the values of republic and declaring support for an independent, united and democratic Afghanistan, which is the end state pursued by the Afghan government.
The Presidential Palace added, that the EU will “deliver the message to the Taliban that the union’s future support for Afghanistan will depend upon preservation of the values of republic in the country.”
Borrell also said he intends to visit Afghanistan at a suitable opportunity to announce support for the republic and Afghanistan’s end state.
