To Honour Raziq, Artists Paint a Mural on Police Academy Wall

A local organization called Help for Afghan Heroes has painted a mural of the martyred hero Gen Abdul Raziq on a police academy wall in the city of Kabul.

Matiullah Sahil, who is a member of the organization expressed that “Our aim by painting this picture is to respect martyrs of recent incidents; victims in Kandahar, especially Gen. Abdul Raziq, the people’s general.”

Another member, expects more from the government, “The Help for Afghan Heroes asks the government to announce a day of national mourning and to respond positively to the legitimate demand among Kandahar youths who want the National Police Academy to be called the Gen. Abdul Raziq Academy,” Mustafa Sulaimankhel said.

Gen Raziq was killed on Thursday in an insider attack by a Taliban planted bodyguard for the Governor of Kandahar who opened fire in the afternoon inside the governor office while a meeting between various officials including foreign ones was going on. Gen. Abdul Momin Hassan Khalil, who was the head of the provincial National Directorate of Security (NDS), was also killed in the same attack.

Among those injured were the governor, Zalmai Wesa, and the commander of Maiwand 404 police zone, as well as Brig Gen Smiley who overseas the NATO military advisory mission in southern Afghanistan.
