Ministry of Health Reports 414 New Cases of COVID-19

Kabul: The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) on Sunday reported 414 new positive cases of the coronavirus (COVID-19) infection in the last 24 hours.

The ministry also reported 52 deaths and 1,224 recoveries from COVID-19 in the last 24 hours.

The total number of cases now stand at 144,285, while the number of reported deaths is 6,477 and the total number of recoveries is 93,059. The Ministry of Health has called on Afghan citizens to follow health guidelines to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

Also, Dr. Wahid Majrooh, Acting Minister of Public Health, met with a representative of UNICEF and the accompanying delegation on Sunday. In this meeting, they discussed the rapid process of purchasing oxygen generators and how to install and activate it.

The Acting Minister of Public Health stressed on the need to speed up the process of purchasing oxygen generators from UNICEF, saying that now we seriously need oxygen generators in health centers in the provinces. Majrooh expressed dissatisfaction with the delay in the purchase of oxygen generators by UNICEF and called on them to take serious action in this regard. At the same time, the UNICEF representative stressed on the need to address the challenges in purchasing oxygen generators and to accelerate the procurement process.

Meanwhile, in other news, Taliban is calling on the international community and non-governmental organizations to assist it with combating the COVID-19 pandemic, Taliban spokesman Suhail Shaheen has told Sputnik. “Now we have control over all rural areas of Afghanistan, there is need for medical assistance. We call on world countries and NGOs to come forward and help us in tackling the corona pandemic,” Shaheen said.

The spokesman added that, according to the movement’s health commission, while there is a dire need for COVID-19 vaccines and oxygen generators, “no one has helped us.” “They say we are doing our best to create awareness among people but don’t have the necessary medicines and vaccines to cope with the growing pandemic,” Shaheen stated. The United States and the United Kingdom on Friday called on the Taliban to provide access for delivery of humanitarian aid to the areas that they control.
