Kabul: The Ministry of Mines and Petroleum announced on Monday that it intends to auction the Zarkashan Copper and Gold Project in Ghazni province, during the mining week, to attract national and international investment for development and extraction.
The Ministry stated that the project will attract an investment of about 15 billion Afghanis in the mining sector and 200 people will get an employment.
The Soviets and Afghanistan Geological Survey (AGS) conducted exploration, geophysical studies, and drilling in the project in the 1960s and 1970s, and found that the mine contains gold and copper. Additionally, the AGS and the US Geological Survey prepared remote sensing data packets for the project in 2009-2011, using contemporary methods of interpreting satellite images.
