COVID-19: Afghanistan Crosses 10K Mark Over Weekend, Tally at 11,582 Cases

Afghanistan reported 591 new Coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours, taking the national total to 11,582 cases, said the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) on Monday. The government recorded one death in Herat province and 22 others have recovered.

The maximum number of new cases were registered in Kabul (390) and Herat (62) provinces. The others reported: Balkh (36), Badghis (21), Nangarhar (18), 14 each in Takhar and Kunar, Jawzjan (11), seven in Maidan Wardak, five each in Paktia and Baghlan, three in Khost, two each in Ghor and Panjshir, and one in Bamiyan.

Over the last seven days, Kabul has topped the national tally for daily new cases.

The Kabul governor has announced stricter lockdown measures after Edi Al-Fitr, even as plans are underway to open shops for certain hours.

According to the MoPH, the country has 9,857 active COVID-19 cases and recorded 219 deaths and 1,095 recoveries.
