Acting US Secretary of Defense Patrick Shanahan met with US Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad and wrote on Twitter: “Always great to see Ambassador Khalilzad, here in the Pentagon to discuss the ongoing talks for a lasting peace.”
Shanahan said that they continue to work together to set the conditions for a political settlement that will end the war in Afghanistan.
He added that US secretary of state Mike Pompeo, Ambassador Khalilzad are aligned on a way forward
to achieve the objectives of US President Trump’s South Asia Strategy.
