Trump Says US is in ‘Strong Negotiations’ with Afghanistan, but Also Unsure About Success

US President Donald Trump expressed that “We’re in very strong negotiations with Afghanistan right now,” addressing reports after delivering a Thanksgiving holiday message to US soldiers in Afghanistan.

“I really think the people of Afghanistan … are tired of fighting” he added.

“We are talking about peace and we’ll see if that happens … We have negotiations going on. I don’t know that they are going to be successful, probably they’re not. Who knows? They might be, they might not be,” he further remarked.

The US President’s remarks on Thanksgiving comes after US Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad has been in a visit to the region for facilitating a peace process.
