Potzel: Circle of Violence Must Come to an End

Addressing the opening of Intra-Afghan dialogue at Doha, Germany’s Special Envoy Markus Potzel said “all Afghan participants are agreeing to engage in a constructive dialogue because of all the suffering which the Afghan people have endured and are still enduring”.

He said that after so many years, the circle of violence must come to an end said and that history will remember those who were able to set their differences aside for the sake of the country.

“Afghanistan wants and deserves peace, a peace that protects the rights of all Afghan citizens, especially women and minorities, and that leaves the region and the world more secure,” Potzel added.

Markus Potzel gave the opening address at the Intra-Afghan dialogue which is taking place for two days in Doha, Qatar.
It is seen as such a momentous dialogue that even US-Taliban talks have been paused for it.
