MoPH Urged Ashura Mourners Not to Hold Large Gatherings During Muharam

As Muharram mourning approaches, the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) is urging people not to hold large rallies during the Muharram to prevent the spread of the Corona virus.

Ahmad Javad Osmani, the Acting Minister of Health, in a press conference today, Thursday called on the people to stop gathering in closed places and not to hold large gatherings.

Osmani said that the mourners of Ashura should consider the health recommendations of the Ministry of Health, and stressed that the Committee for Combating the Corona Virus is preparing the health guidelines for the Muharram mourning, and these guidelines will be made available to the people soon.

The Acting Minister of Health continued that there are currently 9,000 active cases of coronavirus in Afghanistan and the further spread of this virus should be prevented.

Pointing to the lack of attention of young people to the coronavirus, Osmani stressed that the young people should not be mistaken in thinking that they will not be infected with the corona virus. The ministry’s survey showed that 43% of those infected were between the ages of 20 and 39.
