Afghan Government Signs MoU with Asian Development Bank for Electricity Sector

The Afghan Presidential Palace has announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on the Development and Strengthening of the Electricity Sector between the Ministry of Finance and the Asian Development Bank, aimed at establishing a national electricity grid.

The memorandum was signed by Mohammad Homayoun Ghayomi, the acting minister of finance and ADB country director for Afghanistan,Samuel Tumiwa, on Thursday morning in the presence of President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani.

Under the memorandum, Daikundi, Uruzgan, Ghor, Nuristan and Nimroz provinces are connected to a single national electricity grid.

However, the budget commitment of the MoU is currently $ 240 million, which will increase with the development of projects.
Also, during the implementation of this memorandum, the study, design and procurement processes will begin.
