Pakistan border crossing to be Temporarily Shut Down for Elections

Afghanistan is going to temporarily close the Torkham border crossing with Pakistan as a part of enforcing a security measure for Saturday’s parliamentary and district council elections, an official said Thursday.

The crossing will remain shut to passengers and vehicles from Thursday evening this evening until Sunday morning, spokesman for the governor of Nangarhar border province, Ataullah Khogyani confirmed.

Afghan authorities have additionally assured that they will be deploying more than 50,000 forces to guard the upcoming elections this week.
