US Ambassador to Kabul John Bass posted on Twitter that he welcomes the Afghan government’s efforts to improve the climate for a political settlement by releasing some Taliban prisoners for Eid.
“Lasting peace will be rooted in reconciliation and forgiveness by all”, he wrote.

Bass also added that in contrast, however, the Taliban’s prisoners are not being released but they are being freed from captivity by Afghan security forces. For this reason he applauded ANDSF bravery in freeing hundreds of fellow Afghans.
