IEC Announces Possible Delay in Presidential Elections, Reforms Expected

The Independent Election Commission (IEC) on Wednesday confirmed to TOLONews that the upcoming Presidential elections which were originally due to be held on April 20, 2019, might face some delay.

Hafizullah Hashemi, member of the IEC, said the commission has discussed the matter with donor countries and the United Nations to delay the presidential elections for two or three months for “some certain reasons”.

He said the decision has been made to bring more reforms to the Independent Election Commission.

This comes after the IEC informed that there has been no response in the registration process for presidential candidates ever since it was started last week.
