Acting US Defense Secretary Patrick M. Shanahan said at press conference on Tuesday “there’s no change to the 4R-plus-S plan … Realign, reinforce, regionalize, reconcile. He said the reconcile part has now kicked in. “I just emphasize no change to the 4Rs-plus-S.”
Shanahan said talks between Khalilzad & Taliban “were encouraging”. He said time was needed but there was “a new level of energy …the reconciliation portion of our 4R-plus-S is working. Now we need to give the diplomats time & space to advance those conversations.”
