Taliban group set fire to a school building in Takhar’s provincial capital, Taloqan city, after clashes with the Afghan security forces on Tuesday evening.
On Wednesday, Takhar Police spokesperson Khalil Asir said that the Taliban fighters started the fire while they were retreating after the clash.
The militants had been using the school as a base for some time. The building, its library and laboratory were also set on fire.
He said that the school, called “Abdul Latif Shahid,” is located in the Qulbars area of Taloqan, and around 1,000 students were enrolled.

The Taliban has yet to comment on the incident.
