United Nations Secretary General Antonio Gutierrez, while addressing the Geneva Ministerial Conference on Afghanistan, called on the international community to work and cooperate so as to make the Afghan owned end led peace process a success.
Mr Guterres expressed his concerns over the widespread violence in Afghanistan and conveyed his condolences to the people for their traumas and sufferings.
He also welcomes the Summit’s focus on transforming Afghanistan and making it self-reliant , which was a goal set by the country itself in 2014.
Finally, the UN Secretary-General also mentioned that the Geneva Mutual Accountability Framework shall guide the Summit and its format and activities until 2020. It will ensure that any activity done for peace and security of Afghanistan will be done in the context of development and reform.
