COVID-19 in Afghanistan (1); 15 New Positive Cases & Recovery of 5 Patients

Officials at the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) say at least 15 new cases of the coronavirus were recorded in the country during the past 24 hours.

The spokesman of MoPH, Wahidullah Mayar in a press conference on Saturday said that of the 102 suspected cases of coronavirus that have been tested in Kabul and Herat laboratories over the past 24 hours, 15 of them were diagnosed as positive.

Measures for government employees

Following the spread of the coronavirus in the country, efforts are being made to prevent its spread day by day.

The Independent Commission for Administrative Reforms and Civil Services has announced that many of the government institutions excluding the public health and security and military ones, will be off for three weeks from Saturday to avoid the spread of the Corona virus.

The decision was made on the basis of a proposal by the Emergency Committee to Prevent the Spread of Corona Virus and approval of the Afghan cabinet.

Upper House of Parliament

The Afghan Senate Press Office also said in a press release on Saturday that the Senate has also postponed its sessions due to the government’s decision of movement restriction in Kabul and will hold extraordinary sessions if necessary.

Allocation of Budget to the Media

In the meantime, Afghanistan Supporting Open Media-Nai has called on the government to allocate part of the Corona emergency budget to the media. It has called on the government to allocate some of the government’s special budget to combat coronavirus, along with other government awareness campaigns on combating Corona virus.

EU Pledges Cooperation

In the meantime, The European Union’s ambassador to Afghanistan in a meeting with President Ashraf Ghani, has said that the EU is ready to work with the Afghan government to fight the Corona virus.

According to the Presidential Palace statement, during the meeting, the EU Ambassador to Afghanistan talked about the challenge of the Corona virus and said they are ready to work with the Afghan government to combat this phenomenon.

At the same time, the Minister of Public Health says the Darlaman Palace is dedicated to the treatment of the coronavirus patients.

The health minister noted that the ministry has initially allocated funds for the treatment of COVID-19 patients in the hospitals of Mohammad Ali Jinnah, Sheikh Zayed and Haji Camp.

Overall statistics

There are currently 106 cases of positive coronavirus in Afghanistan.  Of the 15 new cases of coronavirus, 11 are in Herat, 3 in Farah and 1 in Ghazni.

During the past 24 hours, a COVID-19 patient in Samangan province has been recovered, which the total number of recovered patients reaches to five so far.
